For all shipments to companies in Canada, the recipient's company must have a registered company number. The sender must state this on the invoice.

**Preferential trade agreement with EU

For shipments from the EU to companies in Canada, the recipient can claim exemption from import duties, and vice versa. This only requires an invoice statement (a stamp of the supplier on the invoice).

Document shipments (not dutiable) are limited to real documents such as certificates and invoices - with no commercial value.

As soon as something has a commercial value (eg books, magazines, photos and data carriers), the shipment is dutiable.
