The corona virus, more precisely the Covid-19 virus, which surfaced in China at the end of last year, is becoming increasingly widespread. The WHO (World Health Organization) has determined that the virus is a serious health threat.
The virus is spreading more and more worldwide, and in the Netherlands the virus is now spreading in various places. Quarantine measures are taken locally, with regions also being closed. Naturally, in those situations movement of goods is no longer possible.
Everyone has a responsibility to prevent spread and DHL is preparing to take action quickly if this situation occurs. The health of employees and customers is paramount.
As a globally operating company, epidemic and pandemic risk scenarios are an integral part of DHL's ongoing risk planning. Accordingly, DHL's business activities are constantly being adjusted to reduce potential effects. A taskforce follows the situation closely and can take necessary measures at any time. The safety of our employees and customers is paramount. All measures are consistent with those of the health authorities. (In the Netherlands https://www.rivm.nl/, in Belgium www.info-coronavirus.be)
Measures taken by DHL internally
DHL has taken necessary measures internally to protect employees and customers against contamination and to prevent the virus to spread. These include at the least all measures that RIVM and the Belgian health authorities advise, such as extra attention to hygiene and alertness to symptoms. Additionally, measures are taken to safeguard continuity of our core processes and travel restrictions to risk areas are installed. These measures are continuously being addressed in internal communication and in daily management.
Impact on services
DHL is prepared to take operational measures in the event that DHL sites are specifically affected. These are aimed at limiting the consequences for the delivery of services and at least protecting other parts of our company. With regard to the Benelux, we are currently only experiencing consequences from and to those areas abroad that are designated as risk areas. In some cases, the local government has implemented strict controls to prevent the spread of the disease. In such cases, the collection, delivery and storage services of all carriers are suspended.
More information on areas where our services are restricted or suspended due to the virus can be found online, or please be referred to your account manager.
